about #free2homeschool

why, who, what etc...

responding to the need for representation

Who are we?

We are a grassroots initiative comprised of home educating parents, home educated children, and professionals. We seek to equip both our elected representatives as well as our fellow home educators in advocating for educational choice, best practices and opportunities for our youngest Australians now and into the future.

We've been responding to a need there is for a collective campaign toward maintaining the educational rights and choice around home education in Queensland...

Uniting our Voices

We are a very busy and diverse bunch of people who often fly under the radar. We belong to LOADS of community groups, co-operatives and initiatives which can see us getting lost and misrepresented to mainstream MPs and the media. This is a platform to support the consolidation of your experiences to help bust the myths.

Educating our MPs

They don't know what they don't know. If MPs haven't had first hand experience with homeschooling, we can't blame them for not understanding how potent educating our own kids using child led practices, unit study pedagogy, inter-age experiences and more... (often which go beyond core curriculum)...can be

Helping each other

Many of us tens of thousands of parents and kids currently homeschooling in the state are incredibly, even insanely busy with daily interactive learning activities so we are attempting to step up and ease each others burden to prove how important it is not to alter the laws.

Our Approach

  • Research based

We ensure that we are collectively up to date with aggregation of the latest research and evidence based information aroud educational practices in Australia and other international jurisdictions

  • Child-centred

The child and their rights and our responsibilities to support them are at the heart of our advocacy

  • Focused support

Ours is not a one size fits all, just like what home education should be. We try to represent the breadth and depth of our community

Meet Our Team

There are numerous, brilliant legends behind this campaign - you are probably one of them - but our spokespeople are:

Amanda Bartle

Patricia Fitzgerald

Hilary Uhr

Campaign Director

Amanda Bartle has graduated 2 teens and has one left at home, attempting to escape the nest through an apprenticeship.

She has accumulated impressive Facebook time answering homeschool questions on registration, career pathways and staying calm in the face of homeschool problems.

Amanda writes plans for Queensland homeschoolers, runs 3 co-ops, teaches classes and is a registered teacher, currently studying counseling for fun. Her homeschool journey is publicly posted on Facebook as Littlekidscan and includes travel, co-op classes, planning ideas, graduate stories and general teen shenanigans.
She is also secretary of Permaculture connect.org and I’m in a working group for the Logan Education Round Table for connecting teens to future pathways and employment.

Campaign Manager

Patricia has a decade of homeschooling experience, which includes time within both Distance Education and Home Education Registration. She has seen education through the early childhood years right up to navigating university and TAFE pathways, as well as coordinating and teaching classes and co-ops. She also has a deep understanding of neuro diversities.

She is a master at digital record-keeping, interpreting red tape and administrating a number of large homeschool Facebook support groups in both Queensland and Australia.

Patricia continues to support home educators locally and abroad, whilst fostering the love of learning in those around her. Her own love of learning sees her currently completing a Diploma of Justice Studies in addition to past qualifications in a variety of fields.

Campaign Advisor

Hilary is a lawyer whose main areas of practice have been industrial relations, employment and discrimination. Hilary's background spans across public and private legal practice, politics, and music.

She is passionate about education and is currently home educating her two children. Hilary's family are accidental homeschoolers driven by the best interests of their kids, and they love it.
